Wuhan City profile
Wuhan, abbreviated as "Han" and also known as Jiangcheng, is a prefecture level city, provincial capital, sub provincial city, super large city, and national central city in Hubei Province. It is designated by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as the central city of central China, an important industrial base, science and education base, and comprehensive transportation hub in the country. As a national historical and cultural city and an important birthplace of Chu culture, Wuhan has been a military and commercial center in southern China since the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period. In the Yuan Dynasty, it became the provincial capital of Hubei and Guangxi, and in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was known as the "first prosperous place in Chu" and one of the "four gathering places in the world". The opening of Hankou and the Westernization Movement in the late Qing Dynasty started the modernization process of Wuhan, making it an important economic center in modern China.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, due to its unique strategic position, Wuhan became a core city of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, a strategic pivot for the rise of the central region, and a comprehensive innovation and reform pilot zone. Among them, China Optics Valley is committed to building an innovation and entrepreneurship center with global influence. At present, Wuhan is accelerating the construction of a national central city supported by four major functions: national economic center, high-level scientific and technological innovation center, commercial and logistics center, and international communication center.
